The Kayak More Tomorrow Story

Kayak More Tomorrow Born in the Lofoten Islands, Norway, 1998!

September 1998 Kayak More Tomorrow launches in the Lofoten Islands, Norway!

The First Decade 1998 – 2008

In 1999, The Iconic Lofoten Islands Sea Kayak Expedition, a 125 km, 7-day Inn to Inn trip from the Outer-West in Å to Svolvær in the East launched as Norway’s very first commercial sea kayak trip.

New fun trips were added every year during this period, such as, Paddle & Hike Lofoten/Vesterålen’s highest peak Møysalen (1 262 m). Including Winter paddling with the Orcas out on Tysfjord, the first commercial sea kayak guiding in winter Norway.

Established Sea Kayak Centres in Svolvær, Reine, and Geiranger with a focus on these programs:

·        Self-guided sea kayak trips Lofoten Islands & Western Fjords

·        Guided Day Trips

·        Guided multi-day sea kayak trips

·        Sea kayak instruction beginners’ courses up to advance paddling techniques and rolling instructional sessions

I was a founding member of NHKGIF/IFSKGIA in; where I created and taught the first annual NHKGIF/IFSKGIA Sea Kayak Guide Leadership course in the Lofoten Islands. Also, during this time, I brought the Sea Kayak Guide School to Geiranger as well.

In Geiranger, I designed and led the first ever sea kayak cruise passenger excursion; due to the popularity of this paddling excursion the sea kayak centre in Geiranger was rapidly expanding.

Sea Kayak Centres in the Lofoten Islands sold to local Rorbuer, as our focus reverted to leading multi-day trips through the islands.

The Second Decade 2009 – 2018

Kayak More Tomorrow was still rapidly expanding in Geiranger. Our fleet of sea kayaks expanded to 40 doubles and 40 single sea kayaks enabling us to take groups of over 60 cruise passengers out at a time on a single sea kayak excursion.

During this time our Cruise passenger excursions peaked at 180 cruise passengers per day, with over 20 000 cruise paddlers per season.

Stand-Up Paddle Boards (SUP) were added to our lineup during this decade, Kayak More Tomorrow became the first SUP Board Outfitter in Norway, proving our pioneering spirit was still intact.

As Norway’s premier sea kayak company, we enjoyed working with top-tier concierge services and paddling with some of the world’s richest and famous people in the fjords.

The Iconic Lofoten Islands Sea Kayak Expedition suffered a slow-down during the world financial crisis, but recovered its popularity during the 2010’s.

I closed Sea Kayak Geiranger and opened a Sea Kayak Centre in Ålesund, moving the sea kayak centre to the coastal city of Ålesund gave us an even larger paddling playground in the fjords.

I sold the sea kayak centre in Ålesund. And after 20 years of operating paddling centres in Norway’s premier paddling venues, I am leaving the world of cruise excursions to the next generation.

The Third Decade 2019 – 2028

Kayak More Tomorrow returns to its roots as a sea kayak company specializing in guided multi-day and self-guided sea kayak trips along Norway’s fjord-indented coastline, along with a few choice private guided day trips and private instructional days.

The Covid 19 Pandemic
By 2020 Kayak More Tomorrow was uniquely positioned to ride-out the Covid 19 Pandemic that began in March 2020 and lasted through the summer of 2022. I scaled back operations; led trips every summer during the pandemic, navigating the quarantine jungle as best I could I kept Kayak More Tomorrow’s sea kayak trips up a running during these years.

From 2023 to present; after downsizing due to the pandemic Kayak More Tomorrow tightened up its sea kayak programs to included private guided and self-guided sea kayak trips in Lofoten Islands, Helgelands Coast and from Ålesund down the Western Fjords, including both multi-day and day trips.

We have had the fjords all to ourselves during the past 8 summers! We haven’t met any other paddlers while sea kayaking the fjords every week from Early May through mid-September! This has been case for most of my time guiding and leading Kayak More Tomorrow.

There is no better time to Get Out There with Kayak More Tomorrow and experience the fjords in all their majesty! We run all our trips as scheduled and you won’t meet other sea kayakers while out on your trip.
