Travelling to Norway?

Our first entry! Sharing our wisdom and offering some helpful tips to those traveling in Norway.

We started 20 years ago, as Norway’s first-ever adventure travel outfitter. Since then there have been many changes in the industry, especially, the last 10 years with numerous companies springing up everywhere. Good for the customer one should think, however, this is Norway!

The perils of Norway! Non-qualified and uncertified guides from all over the world are overly abundant here in Norway; the reason they are here is to cash-in on Norwegian Wages. A Guides’ quality of service, experience, competence, and certification is not so important to most Norwegian companies. Providing quality service can directly affect a company’s bottom-line especially in the world’s most expensive country. This combined with a genuine lack of understanding for the outdoor industry and the fact that most companies here have been founded on the premise of quick and easy money, with no real work required! To quote an outfitter, “certified guides – no, they’re too expensive and we don’t need them anyway”.

Over the past 10 years, we have rescued countless clients that have been led astray by Norwegian companies. Saving their holiday trip by providing the service and the tour that they thought they had purchased! It cannot be expressed enough, be very careful when choosing a guide service.

To help you choose the right adventure company in Norway, here are some helpful hints?

Send out an e-mail request and if your response includes statements such as these listed below or if you don’t receive a timely response.

  • No response to your e-mail request, even though you sent a couple of them.
  • There is a min. the number for the trip to run!
  • We can offer you a private trip for Kr 4500,- or more, as you are the only one who wants to go.

Also, check out a company’s reviews and there are ones that include things like:

  • Trip canceled due to your guide being is sick or hurt! This is a classic excuse used in Norway; you then know that they didn’t want to run it with only one person.

Norwegians and their sick leave! An outrageously generous national sick leave policy affects every company. Norwegians never question a person’s sick leave; therefore, it is a great excuse for canceling a trip with low enrollment. Don’t be fooled.

Do you really want to spend precious time on your holidays with an uninspiring, non-certified, poorly trained guide?

Internationally certified guides are the cornerstone of our first-class customer service and they are also our biggest safety feature. You will appreciate the difference that our world-class, certified, professional guide team makes!

SEA KAYAK THROUGH THE HEART OF THE LOFOTEN ISLANDS

On our Sea Kayak through the Heart of the Lofoten Islands trip, you’ll kayak from the ‘Inside to the Outside’ of this remarkable chain of islands. Through indigo-blue fjords cutting between jagged peaks, stopping at white sand beaches and historic, colorful hamlets; at the end of each paddling day, you’ll stay in “rorbus”, traditional fishermen’s lodges with time to explore these charming villages and sample the local cuisine. Great kayaking, spectacular scenery and Norway’s seafaring culture make the Lofoten Islands one of the world’s great paddling trips.

Our discovery begins in the Lofoten’s most iconic fishing village, Henningsvær, situated on the islands of Heimøya and Hellandsøya which jut outward from the tip of Austvåg Island onto the might West Fjord; from here we cross two sounds, Gimsøy Sound, and the Napp Sound, before we cruise out onto the ‘Outside’ (North Atlantic) of the Lofoten Islands. The weather and sea state in the Lofoten Islands make it impossible to accurately give a daily paddling mileage. Therefore, we have approximated the daily paddling duration in the day-by-day itinerary.
