The Aftermath of the Covid-19 Pandemic and Adventure Travel

As the Covid-19 pandemic trudges on into 2022 the adage “only the strongest will survive” is finally starting to play out n the adventure travel world.

March 2020, the world stopped and went into lockdown as Covid-19 raced around the world. We came out of lockdown and into a world with very tentative and rapidly changing travel and quarantine restrictions in the summer of 2020, which severely impacted our season. Then in early 2021 with the start of full-scale worldwide vaccination, we had renewed optimism going into the summer of 2021. However, the 2021 season start was delayed due to more travel and quarantine restrictions, but from the end of July through August we saw a few Europeans recharging their pandemic fatigue on the fjords of Norway. And, now with winter once again upon us and yet another resurgence of the pandemic the summer season of 2022 is going to be anyone’s guess at this point.

When the pandemic hit in 2020, Kayak More Tomorrow reacted quickly and we scaled back operations, quickly put into place a Book with Confidence policy, in which anyone who had to cancel or change their booking due to the Covid-19 restrictions could do so without any extra cost or penalties, we also added health and safety measures to all our programs. These actions have enabled us to ride out the devastating effects that international travel restrictions, borders closures, and quarantine requirements has had on adventure travel and tourism.

Kayak More Tomorrow – 2022 and Onward

During the Pandemic, we scaled back operations and have taken advantage of this downtime by renewing our fleet and paddling gear, reworked our itineraries, added new and exciting trips and programs, and as well our founders, some of the most experienced watermen on the planet, have stepped up and taken on extra duties in the form of guiding & leading trips. This has kept our wheels turning while the world has battled the pandemic. Kayak More Tomorrow is now better prepared than any other outdoor company in Norway to meet the challenges that lay ahead.

Kayak More Tomorrow is your best choice for paddling Norway’s Fjord indented coastline.

SEA KAYAK THROUGH THE HEART OF THE LOFOTEN ISLANDS

On our Sea Kayak through the Heart of the Lofoten Islands trip, you’ll kayak from the ‘Inside to the Outside’ of this remarkable chain of islands. Through indigo-blue fjords cutting between jagged peaks, stopping at white sand beaches and historic, colorful hamlets; at the end of each paddling day, you’ll stay in “rorbus”, traditional fishermen’s lodges with time to explore these charming villages and sample the local cuisine. Great kayaking, spectacular scenery and Norway’s seafaring culture make the Lofoten Islands one of the world’s great paddling trips.

Our discovery begins in the Lofoten’s most iconic fishing village, Henningsvær, situated on the islands of Heimøya and Hellandsøya which jut outward from the tip of Austvåg Island onto the might West Fjord; from here we cross two sounds, Gimsøy Sound, and the Napp Sound, before we cruise out onto the ‘Outside’ (North Atlantic) of the Lofoten Islands. The weather and sea state in the Lofoten Islands make it impossible to accurately give a daily paddling mileage. Therefore, we have approximated the daily paddling duration in the day-by-day itinerary.
